phone: (+359 2) 979 2767, e-mail: tpetkova@iees.bas.bg

Research area

The research focus of the Department of Solid State Electrolytes is on the development of new prospectie materials for electrochemical application. The Department’s research team has a long experience in the syntehsis and characterization of inorganic materials (chalcogenides and oxides) as well as of hybird bulk, thin film or nanocomposite mateirals. Traditional methods (e.g. melt quenching and vacuum thermal evaporation) and modern techniques (sol-gel, hydrothermal) are employed for their production. Research aimed at the development of composite electrolyte materials for lithium batteries is carried out. Investigations are underway of electrodes immobilized with photosensitive molecules for water purification applications as well as of thin film inorganic and hybrid materials for application as optical and biosensors. The Department’s activities include also synthesis and testing of nanocrystalline diamond layers for photoelectrochemical applications as well as development of novel electrolyte materials for low-temperature fuel cells.
